Testing Requirements

stock imageIn addition to coursework requirements, Liberal Studies majors have several testing requirements that they need to keep in mind above and beyond the University’s testing requirements, such as the entry level ELM and EPT and the upper division Writing Proficiency Assessment (WPA) .

Only one of these tests, the Liberal Studies Math Proficiency Assessment, is required for graduation. More specifically, it is required in order to move from the PRE-major in Liberal Studies to the major. Students who don’t make this important transition in a timely fashion (normally by the end of their first junior semester) jeopardize their graduation, so it is important to satisfy these requirements during or, preferably, before the Junior year. For more information on all of the requirements to move from PRE-major to major, please visit the impaction criteria page of this site.

The other tests that most Liberal Studies majors take – CBEST and CSET– are for entrance into a credential program and are not required for graduation. Thus, students who decide that they do not want to earn a teaching credential are not required to take these tests.
