All students who declare Liberal Studies as their major begin as PRE-majors. It is expected that students will be PRE-majors while they complete their lower division preparation for the major coursework. However, once the preparation for the major is completed, students need to move from the PRE-major to the major in a timely fashion in order to progress through the upper division major coursework unimpeded. Much of the upper division major coursework is not open to PRE-majors, which means they are unable to register for these classes. Footnotes in the class schedule always indicate if a class is not open to PRE-majors. The upper division classes that are open to PRE-majors are listed on the Liberal Studies course sequence chart, mainly in the Junior Semester I box, though any course that's not underlined on the chart is open to PRE-majors, regardless of which box it's in.
The criteria that Liberal Studies students must meet in order to move from the PRE-major to the major are listed below:
When students have met all of these requirements, they should notify the Liberal Studies office via the email advising link on the Liberal Studies website (see the upper left hand corner of this page) so we can make the change. Please note that this change will not happen automatically.
