Upper Division Major: Math Emphasis (Catalog Year 2014 and Later)

The Liberal Studies major with a Math Emphasis prepares students for teaching math in middle school. Several pathways exist.  One pathway includes obtaining a math authorization along with a multiple subjects elementary credential; this authorizes candidates to teach multiple subjects in elementary school and math in middle school.

Other pathways lead to a single subject credential in math; this authorizes candidates to teach math in middle school and lower level math at the high school level.

The decision to move to the Math Emphasis doesn't need to be made until after the prep for the major is completed. Interested matriculated students should meet with a Liberal Studies advisor to discuss the possibility of declaring and pursuing the Math Emphasis.

Print a math emphasis advising sheet that lists all of the required courses to complete the Liberal Studies major with a Math Emphasis.
