Students interested in being certified to teach both elementary school (multiple subjects) and a single subject at the middle school level should choose the middle school option in the subject area that they intend to teach in middle school. To learn more about the process of earning certification to teach both elementary and middle school, see the Middle School Option page of this website, visit the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing website, and/or read the handout we've prepared. NOTE: students in catalog years 2011 and later will automatically complete the required course work for a middle school authorization by choosing the Content Focus that corresponds to their preferred subject area.
The specific content areas a student can pursue a middle school authorization in are grouped below by general content area with a link to a .pdf file listing the specific requirements of each individual middle school authorization.
